About Navi Mumbai International Airport Project

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is a greenfield airport project situated in the heart of Navi Mumbai. The design of the terminal is influenced by India’s national flower, the Lotus, leading to a distinctive architectural masterpiece.

Project Overview 

The project covers an area of 1,160 hectares and is scheduled to be completed in five phases.

The lotus design of the terminal makes it an iconic structure, with unique and futuristic architectural form, operational efficiency and advanced technology.

Advancing Towards Commercial Operations

The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is being built in five phases. In the launch phase, the airport will accommodate 20 million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) and handle 0.5 Million Metric Tons (MMT) of cargo. The project is witnessing a steady pace of construction and is taking rapid strides towards completion for commercial operation

Project Updates
NAVAIDs Calibration

November 2024: Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (NMIAL), in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), successfully conducted the flight calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS). This landmark event marks a significant step toward preparing the instrument approach procedure. which is essential for the eventual licensing and operationalisation of NMIA.

Indian Air Force C-295 landing

October 2024: In a milestone for Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI), an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft successfully landed on its South runway. The IAF C-295's inaugural landing marks a key step in the development of the airport, which began in August 2021 and is set to open in early 2025. This landing tests the new runway, taxiways, air traffic control systems, and handling procedures to ensure they meet all safety and operational standards.

Agreement signed to supply PNG at Airport

September 2024: Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Limited (NMIAL) signed an agreement with Mahanagar Gas Limited(MGL) to supply Piped Natural gas (PNG) at the airport for diverse operational needs. With this agreement MGL will supply an average daily natural gas requirement of approx. 2,300KG across NMIAs multiple facilities.

Baggage Handling System at Passenger Terminal Building

August 2024: Baggage handling System is installed and completed in the Head House basement of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) wherein the BBA feeder belt, PDP, MCC, and FCC panels are charged for baggage system carousels.

Completion of Structural Steel Work

August 2024: The structural steel work, estimated at approximately 10,000 metric tonnes, for Head House 17 Mega Columns, including the extensive roof trusses, as well as the West and East Piers, were completed.

Development Landmarks achieved to make Runway Ready

March 2024: NMIAL construction team completed the impacted portions of the runway and made it ILS ready for flight calibration before onset of monsoon. This included the completion of DVOR structure and its external developments. Simultaneously, the Parallel Taxiway and main pavement work are completed along with top Asphalt layers.

Major Milestones

The Navi Mumbai International Airport has reached several key milestones in its development journey. From the initial conceptualisation of the project to the arrival of the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft C-295, the airport is looking forward to serve passengers both domestically and internationally
